QVCC INSTRUCTOR TO BECOME AMERICAN CITIZEN

Ling-chuan Chu, PhD, Quinebaug Valley Community College instructor of psychology/sociology, will take the oath to become an American citizen in Hartford on Friday September 7th.

Born in Taiwan, Dr. Chu came to the United States as a graduate student in 1988 and had no intention of immigrating to the United States. While studying for her PhD at the University of Connecticut, she met a fellow graduate student who later became her husband. “After we graduated, we decided to stay in this country because it is a place of abundant opportunity,” stated Dr. Chu.

Dr. Chu’s husband, Amin Keshwani, who is originally from Pakistan, will also be taking the oath on Friday. Dr. Chu said, “I am so excited and very emotional about becoming an American citizen. This country has provided us with so much and now I can be proud to be a citizen. This country is the best place for fairness, justice and opportunities for hardworking people.”

Chu and Keshwani live in Mansfield Center with their five year old son Anatole.

Biographical information: Ling-chuan Chu, PhD, Instructor of Psychology/Sociology: Dr. Chu has her bachelor of science and master of science in psychology from National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan. She received her PhD in social psychology from University of Connecticut. Dr. Chu has held positions at Eastern Connecticut State University, SUNY Oswego and Delaware State University.
