"IDEAS ARE FREE" WORKSHOP FOR BUSINESSES WILL BE HELD AT QVCC

The Quinebaug Valley Plastics Institute is sponsoring a workshop for businesses focusing on how the best managers and organizations tap the ideas of front-line employees.

“Ideas Are Free,” a workshop presented by Dr. Alan Robinson, co-author of the book by that name, will be held on Thursday, October 2, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson.

True excellence and sustainable competitive advantage are only possible with the attention to detail that comes from getting and implementing large numbers of ideas from employees. Front-line employees see many problems and opportunities that their managers don’t because they are the ones doing the work. Robinson and co-author Dean Schroeder studied more than 150 organizations in 17 countries to discover what worked, what didn’t, and why when it comes to promoting ideas.

Lawrence Acquarulo, chief executive officer of Foster Corporation, has nothing but praise for “Ideas are Free. “We never believed this program would have such a positive effect,” he said. “We now have a steady stream of employee ideas being implemented at all levels of the company, making a significant impact on quality, safety, business performance, and job satisfaction.”

The workshop is open to any business. The fee of $50 for Quinebaug Valley Plastics Institute members and $75 for non-members includes a complimentary copy of Ideas Are Free and light refreshments. For more information or to register, call Jill O’Hagan at QVCC at (860) 412-7300.
