NEW DIETARY ASSISTANT PROGRAM OFFERED AT QVCC

Bridging the gap between allied health and nutritional services, Quinebaug Valley Community College is now offering a 50-hour Dietary Assistant Certificate program. Classes start at the Danielson campus on October 7.

This program will provide students with a stepping stone to an entry-level position in food service. Dietary assistants play an important role by helping the registered dietician or dietary manager in hospitals, long-term care facilities, day care facilities, school lunch programs, and public health offices.

The curriculum will focus on the role of the dietary department in healthcare, the principles of adequately nutritional diets, changing nutritional needs through the life cycle, computer applications in food service, state menu regulations, customer service, food cultures and customs, and proper food sanitation and safety procedures. All students who enroll in this program will also take the ServSafe Certificate course.

Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 7 to December 4. All classes will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, except on October 21 and 23 when the class is extended until 9:00 pm.

For more information or to register, call the Center for Community & Professional Learning at 412-7300.
