QVCC GRADUATES HONORED AS BANNER BEARERS
Two Quinebaug Valley Community College graduates were selected
from nominations made by faculty, staff, and students to serve as banner
bearers at the College’s 36th commencement. This honor is bestowed upon
graduates who have distinguished themselves to the class of 2008.
Brent
Ducharme, a resident of Dayville, came to QVCC two years ago having dropped
out of school after 8th grade. Although only 17 years old, he had not been
in school for three years, but had earned a GED. Although a tentative
college student, Brent excelled immediately, and his potential was noticed
by the college faculty. Two classes in the first semester turned into five
classes in the Fall 2006, where he achieved a 4.0 GPA. Not only is Brent an
excellent student and member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, but he has
been fully active in on-campus activities and has worked as a student worker
in the library. Brent is interested in pursuing his education in the area of
political science. He was awarded an associate in arts degree with high
honors.
Melissa Chick has been a student worker at the College’s Willimantic Center since the summer of 2006. During the last two years she worked as a Kids’ Academy attendant, receptionist, bookstore sales clerk, and tutor. In addition, Melissa played pivotal roles in the Student Government Association, as treasurer in spring, 2007 and president since September 2007. Melissa received a General Studies degree with honors and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. A resident of Columbia, she will be pursing a bachelor’s degree in communications at Eastern Connecticut State University.
