QVCC MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL WILL HOLD OPEN HOUSE
The new Middle College High School at Quinebaug Valley Community
College will hold an open house and orientation session on Wednesday, June
4, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
The session will include an
overview of the school’s mission and vision, a question and answer period, a
tour of the college facility, and an opportunity for students to formalize
and finish the application process.
The new school is designed to offer the college experience and an
alternative learning environment to high school students who are
nontraditional learners. In addition to earning high school credits,
students at the school may also earn college credits by taking classes at
QVCC.
The school expects to enroll about 30 students in 10th grade during its
first year of operation, which begins in late August. Over the next several
years, its enrollment is expected to grow to 125 students in grades 10
through 12.
Principal Gino LoRicco is excited at the prospect of building an innovative
high school for the youth of northeastern Connecticut. “I strongly believe
that this new school has all of the ‘building blocks’ in place to create
something very special for young people,” he said. LoRicco was formerly
principal of Parker Memorial School in Tolland.
