Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? - Junior Detectives
It’s a race around the globe, and you must use your thinking cap to outwit the world’s master criminal, Carmen Sandiego, and her band of clever thieves. You and your classmates will rely on your knowledge of world geography and famous locations to arrest the international bandit herself. In the process you’ll visit some of the most beautiful places on earth, explore foreign lands, and make new friends.

Cartooning & Caricatures
If you love to draw, and have always wanted to learn how to create cartoons and caricatures, this is the course for you. Focus on the development of drawing skills basic to the cartoon and caricature form, learn how to handle tools and materials, and to manipulate line and form. Students will create panel cartoons and also book level graphic comic-art. Japanese anime will also be a focus in this class.

Sherlock Holmes’ Young Detectives
Learn about crime scene investigation and detective work through in-class discussion of actual cases and guest lecture presentations. Class projects may include solving instructor-created cases through the collection, organization and interpretation of data. In the past, guest visitors from the local K-9 unit, the crime scene investigation van, police officers, and attorneys have been a huge hit. Please note – this course may contain graphic material that some parents might consider unsuitable for their child.

Archeological Treasure Hunters
Become a paleontologist and go on an excavation to search for dinosaur remains and fossils. Then move ahead to the days of the gold rush and pan for real gems and minerals like the prospectors did. Learn about the science of archeology and what practicing archeologists really do.

Discover the beauty of watercolor painting in this class for art lovers. Emphasis will be placed on the development of each student’s expression, style, and artistic vocabulary. This class is for beginners as well as more advanced artists who have a passion for more technically sophisticated paintings. All materials will be included.

Sculpture
Work with clay and more in a variety of ways through pottery and basic sculpture. Students will learn design techniques, mold functional objects, and even work on a pottery wheel. Some discussion of glazing and kiln firing may be included depending upon availability and time constraints.

Explore the ancient culture of China and learn the elegant art of Chinese calligraphy. You’ll use Chinese calligraphy in making Chinese greeting cards and your own Chinese scrolls. Also learn a few helpful phrases for the most widely spoken language of the world. Last but not least, learn about China and its ancient yet vibrant culture.
