Outline of Strategies Project :

  1. Identify an issue, topic or subject in the course that interests you, that may be of ongoing interest outside of this class. This may be a practical concern that relates to your work or your professional development, or it may simply be a personal interest.
  2. Raise the topic or subject with the instructor, for feed-back, to see if you are "on track." Is the topic too narrow, too broad, etc.?
  3. Explore "strategies" that could help you to keep learning about this topic, once this course is over. In class, discuss what some possible strategies might be. Listen to others ideas and questions about the meaning of such "strategies."
  4. Keep a list of your own strategies. Be sure that for each one, you find practical information that would be important in carrying out the strategy. Such information could include such things as contact names, addresses etc. of people and/or organizations that somehow deal with your chosen topic.
  5. Think creatively about how you would like to present your list of strategies. Some "paperwork" will be necessary, at least to summarize what you have chosen and to present your bibliographic strategy. Your final project will include a brief paper-summary as defined below. Beyond this, find a medium of presentation that you feel is most effective.

Paper Summary

Your final project should include a brief summary on paper (or if handed in on disk, then a plain "text file") which:

  1. Tells briefly the topic on which you've chosen to focus, and if necessary, explains how this is related to the focus of the course.
  2. Lists in proper bibliographic format the eight to ten library resources (periodicals, journals, newsletters etc.) you have identified that deal with your topic on an ongoing basis.

This "paper summary" is in addition to the strategies themselves, which you will put together and present in the format you choose.
