Interpretive Approaches

Interpretive approaches in cultural anthropology treat culture as "texts" to be understood through interpretation of their "deep structure". Culture is treated as "webs of meaning" to be understood through critical analysis. A key theorist who represents this approach is Clifford Geertz.
